Bliss Cupcakes: Beginner's Guide to Social Media Marketing

Bliss Cupcakes is a small, family-owned cupcake shop located in Rogers, Arkansas. Bliss Cupcake’s staff consists of up to five bakers and ten counter girls who help run the shop. Because Bliss Cupcakes is considered a small business, it does not have a full-time, dedicated marketing person. It certainly does not have a person dedicated full-time to social media specifically. So, the question is what social media platforms should Bliss Cupcakes use, what content should they post, and what goals should they keep in mind while generating social media strategies.

Platforms

When it comes to choosing the right social media platforms for a small business Forbes tells us that we need to consider a few different things. These include the nature of your business, core target audience, client demographics, market research, and therefore match your platform with the audience (Forbes. 2023). In the case of Bliss Cupcakes, its target audience will consist of individuals who live in the Northwest Arkansas area and like cupcakes. It includes individuals of all ages, genders, races, political, and religious differences. Therefore, their target audience will more than likely be present on most major social media platforms. Bliss Cupcakes should use Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok to promote their business. This YouTube video, created by Courtney Sanders, does a great job explaining what social media platforms small businesses should use.

“Don’t ask yourself ‘What social media platforms do I like being on? What platforms do I like consuming content on? Ask yourself, where are your clients.”

- Courtney Sanders

Content

The type of content that a small business posts on social media does not have to be restricted solely because they don’t have a full-time social media coordinator. Bliss Cupcakes should focus on creating content that does not cost a lot of money to make nor take a lot of time to produce. This can include posting their flavors of the day, introducing their staff, promotions, sales, as well as holiday flavor promotions. If Bliss Cupcakes can maintain this content, then its team should have enough content to post at least a few times a week. This is a consistent schedule that is reasonable for a small business, will help them increase engagement, and will also keep the company relevant to its target audience. This type of content will be beneficial to Bliss Cupcakes because it adds value to its brand and, therefore promotes customer interest and engagement. A source that could be helpful for Bliss Cupcakes could be this article by Stephanie Conner, “A Beginners Guide to Social Media for Small Businesses”.

“Whether it’s entertaining, inspiring or educational, good content adds value. It makes a person’s job or life easier. It helps them accomplish something. It makes them smile. And all of that value inspires them to share your content with their own networks.”

- Stephanie Conner

Goals

It is essential that small businesses set social media goals to help their business grow. Bliss Cupcakes' social media goal is obviously not going to involve reaching every single person in the United States because they are a small, local business. For small businesses that don’t have a full-time social media manager, it is a good idea to set smaller-scale goals that will still increase business sales, customer engagement, and ultimately increase its consumer base. Some social media goals for Bliss Cupcakes should include posting content that adds value to its brand, posting at least three times a week, using search engine optimization tactics to reach local customers, and actively engaging with customers on social media. Doing all of these things will not be costly, take up much time, or require a lot of effort. Bliss Cupcakes owners could easily complete these tasks in under two hours a week or less. All of these things will result in exponential growth for the small business.
